"Genuine Faith"

God is calling His Church to a ‘genuine revolution’. It’s all too easy to live a so-called Christian life void of any real meaning, change, or relationship with God. Last week I wrote about how having a revelation of God’s love for us, and being a genuine reflection of that must be the beginning of everything we do. Hand-in-hand with this, is our faith.

We must be genuine in our faith. True love is never just a feeling, however we too often confuse it with those feelings – which is why God places such a high value on our faith.

When we are faced with a challenging situation, or when we have the opportunity to do something great, how do we respond? Do we shy away from the challenge? Do we rise to the occasion? Human courage can be a wonderful thing, but with God on our side, with or without such courage, we have what it takes to succeed!

It takes faith to overcome, and it takes faith to persevere. My own little definition of faith is this: denying all other possibilities. When faith is required of me, I make a decision in that moment that God will come through, and that that is the only possibility I will consider. He may have a different plan or outcome in mind than what I do, but as I activate my faith, He will surely come through!

So don’t just say, “yeah I’m pushing through”, but then go away and basically bide your time till God comes and rescues you. God has already done His part; He’s waiting for you to exercise your faith and for you to defeat the enemy. Don’t believe me?

Psalm 23:5 says “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies”.God wants you to exercise your faith to overcome the enemy. He has already won the victory, so lets not just say we are walking in that victory, lets actually do it!

Picture a child jumping from a ledge into their fathers arms, or the first time driver on the roads, or the soldier running into battle, sometimes its not a lack of skill or knowledge or feeling that is most dangerous to them, its their own fear and hesitation.

For us in this Christian life, let’s be ones that believe in God’s Word, that use it to bring His Kingdom to this earth.

I remember a time in my life when a few of my very close friends decided to walk away from church and had many legitimate questions about their faith. I too was asking a lot of questions, and very simply one of them was: how do I know that my faith in God is not just some crazy hope? The answer was as true as it was emphatic: God is faithful! Our God is good, and He is faithful! His track record in my life is one of faultless faithfulness.

Romans 10:17 tells us that “Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God”. Which tells me that to have faith, we must be readers of His word, and pay attention to the great things He has done. Psalm 77:11 says, “I will remember the works of the Lord”.

Don’t leave your faith to chance. Don’t allow complacency or weariness to rob you of what God has promised you. If you are a leader, be an example in your faith, people today are looking for leaders who will be bold in their genuine belief and convictions.

Let your faith be genuine, and then watch the affect of it on your young people. Dare to be vulnerable enough to let them see your faith!

To be a part of this ‘genuine revolution’, it all starts with a revelation of God’s love, and a reality check on our faith. Because sometimes its not just about doing the right things, but about doing them for the right reasons!
