Daniel 9:18-19 “Give ear, O God, and hear; open your eyes and see the desolation of the city that bears your Name. We do not make requests of you because we are righteous, but because of your great mercy. O Lord, listen! O Lord, forgive! O Lord, hear and act! For your sake, O my God, do not delay, because your city and your people bear your Name."

I love this passage!!! Look at the reason why Daniel confidently makes requests to God… not because of our righteousness but because of your great mercy O God.

This is the reason we can even approach God and ask Him for things. If we get this in the right perspective, it does not limit anybody coming to God in prayer. Many people feel they can’t come to God because they feel unworthy; unrighteous. We are never worthy enough to approach a totally holy and pure God.

None of us are good enough through our own merit. But the good news is, the great news is, it’s not about our righteousness, it’s about God’s goodness, mercy, love and grace. God wants to hear us. God wants to answer us. God wants us to be His people who bear His Name; people who know the greatness of their God, the richness of His mercy and the desire of His heart.

It’s not because of our righteousness, but it’s because of His great mercy.
