"Strive or Abide"

There’s a fine line between striving and abiding and sometimes I’m not sure which side of the line I am on. Sometimes I feel like I am never doing enough in my walk with God. Is there any of you who feel the same? I don’t want to strive but I do want to do all I can to live a God-honouring life. My desire, like yours, is pure and I truly want to walk closely with God and bring Him pleasure. I also want to bear fruit and do His will. I just need to ‘try harder’, right? Wrong.

This morning I feel the Lord say I need to abide more and strive less. I need to accept the divine exchange that has already taken place; new for old, life for death, holiness for sin, intimacy for separation…in other words I need a fresh revelation of what has already been done for me by God. And then I need to just sit with Him and abide; ‘hang out’. I need to simply enjoy being with Him. As I go through my day, I need to continue to abide; enjoy being with God, interact, talk, listen and relax. God and I can take a walk together today and that’s what He wants for you. I’m going to pick up an inspiring book now called ‘In the grip of grace’ by Max Lucado and let God speak to me through that; I’m going to relax and abide. See ya!

John 15:5 "I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains (abides) in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing."
