A Note From David

I have just returned from New Zealand where I attended the transition of leadership in the local church that Margaret and I established some 38 years ago.

On Sunday morning it was a very powerful statement as three generations of leadership stood together: myself, Jim Shaw (my successor), and Stephen Millar, the new senior minister that Jim was passing the baton on to. A grandfather, a father and a son in the faith. And all still loving each other!!!

It was an incredible event and a wonderful demonstration of selfless love and deep honouring of one another. We celebrated the past and honoured Jim & Anneke for the outstanding work they had done and embraced Stephen & Susan with A confidence born out of knowing the excellent people that they are. The future looks awesome!

If asked how such a thing is possible, my reply would be "Humility". Three generations of leadership that loved serving each other and were never threatened by the changes that transition brought to them.

When one's motivation is an uncomplicated desire to serve God and his people, insecurity is denied and an empowered transition is ensured.

It is my firm conviction that if all of us possessed such attitudes in relationships and the changing seasons that life brings to us, we would see a wonderful flow of His grace in the life of the Church, instead of the contentions that insecurities so often bring.

As God is ordering our steps, let us trust Him and embrace every new season that He brings to us.

Love & God bless,

David
