Isaiah 40:29–31 (NKJV)He gives power to the weak,
And to those who have no might He increases strength.
Even the youths shall faint and be weary,
And the young men shall utterly fall, But those who wait on the Lord
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.
There is a reason that the Holy Spirit compares God’s renewal of His people to an eagle. Few creatures experience renewal as dramatically as an eagle in its molting season. As the eagle ages, its feathers become worn, heavy, and weather-damaged and to be able to soar again, those old feathers must fall off. There is no renewal without release.
But that transition leaves the eagle temporarily vulnerable. Its flight is weakened, its strength reduced, and its confidence shaken. Yet this vulnerable place is not a sign of decline, it is the doorway to renewal. In time, new feathers begin to grow. Stronger. Lighter. Sharper. Purpose-built for fresh heights.
God says that He does the same for us.
Psalm 103:5 (NKJV) Who satisfies your mouth with good things, so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
Isaiah tells us that even the strongest among us eventually grows weary. Age, pressure, disappointment, loss, and long seasons of endurance can make our spiritual feathers feel worn and heavy. But our heavenly Father is faithful. When we wait on Him – not passively, but in trust, in surrender, in quiet dependence – He exchanges our weakness for His strength. God restores what is weary. He breathes fresh life where fatigue once lived.
And just as the eagle does not force its new feathers to grow, we do not renew ourselves. God does it. He is the One who “renews our youth like the eagle.” He knows when the old must fall away, even when that process feels vulnerable or uncomfortable. But He never leaves us in the in-between. Renewal always comes.
So, if you are weary today, take heart. If you feel like age, pressure, or circumstance has drained your strength, be encouraged. Let restored anticipation arise. Your Father is not finished with you. New feathers are forming. A new strength is rising. A fresh season of soaring is ahead.
You will fly again – higher than ever – not because of your striving to do so, but because of Father’s unfailing love and faithfulness.

One of the questions that many believers ask is, “How do I know if I am actually hearing God speak? Am I being subjective?” Knowing God’s voice is not meant to be complicated. In fact, tuning in to what God is saying can be beautifully simple when we understand His patterns and divine order.
God is ALWAYS SPEAKING about who He is.
God is an unseen God, beyond comprehension. In our humanity, we tend to look at the natural first, rather than the spiritual. So, in His kindness God continually declares who He is as a triune God, so that we can know Him better. God is always speaking, because God is the living Word!
When we are talking about WHO God is, we can never fully understand God. Any list would be inexhaustible – so here are just a few ways in which God speaks about who He is:
GOD’S SOVEREIGNTY: God is self-existent. Immortal. Father, Son, Holy Spirit. The living Word. (John 1:1-5, Isaiah 46:9-10, Deuteronomy 3:24, Psalm 103:19)
GOD’S NAMES: Jehovah Jireh. Prince of Peace. Abba Father. Alpha and Omega. (Isaiah 9:6, Revelation 1:8, Matt 1:23, Romans 8:15, Revelation 5:5)
GOD’S CREATION: Declares His unmatched power, authority, wisdom, and divine order. (Psalm 19:1, Jeremiah 10:12, Romans 1:20, Proverbs 3:19-20)
GOD’S CHARACTERISTICS: Speaks of His unchanging nature. His love, faithfulness, justice, compassion, holiness, mercy. (Psalm 86:15, 1 Samuel 2:2, Lamentations 3:22-23, Psalm 50:6)
HOLY SPIRIT: The Spirit testifies about Jesus and God’s presence displays His glory. (John 15:26, Exodus 19:16-19, Acts 2:1-4, Psalm 139:7, 1 Kings 8:11)
Something is immediately unlocked when we understand that God is always speaking about who He is. Lean into what God is saying about His character, names, power, and sovereignty, and experience a beautiful shift of hearing God’s voice!
God is FREQUENTLY SPEAKING about who we are and His plan of redemption for mankind.
God desires relationship with every person, and we are created to hear His voice. Because of His love, God is frequently speaking about who we are, and His plan of redemption for humanity. When God speaks according to His divine order, we gain a beautiful understanding of our identity. We can find these wonderful truths about who we are woven throughout scripture:
CREATED IN HIS IMAGE: We are fearfully and wonderfully made, precious in His sight (Genesis 1:27, Psalm 139:13-16, Isaiah 43:1)
GOD’S REDEMPTIVE PLAN: Jesus came to seek and save the lost (Luke 19:10, 1 John 4:9-10, John 3:16, Romans 3:21-24)
IDENTITY IN CHRIST: As believers, we are royal heirs, sons and daughters, blessed with every spiritual blessing (Romans 8:15-17, 2 Cor 5:17, 1 Peter 2:9)
As humans, we can tend to see parts of ourselves incorrectly because of environment, challenges, or the words or actions of others. God knows this, so He frequently speaks into our identity to bring us back to a place of truth and security in Him.
God is REGULARLY SPEAKING about every facet of life and godliness.
God created us, and He knows what we need for our daily living. But many believers try to hear from God from a starting place of how to live life and completely miss the wonder of knowing who God is. This can lead to rules instead of relationship, behaviour instead of being, and tasks instead of time with the Lord.
2 Peter 1:3 (NIV)His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.
Notice how in this scripture, what we need for a godly life starts through our knowledge of Him! Everything we need comes from His divine power. When we start with who God is, and when we know who we are, we are correctly positioned to hear God speak to us about every aspect of our lives, such as:
HIS WILL AND PURPOSE FOR OUR LIVES (Jeremiah 29:11, Psalm 33:11, Heb 13:21)
HIS WISDOM, WAYS AND DIRECTION (Proverbs 2, John 14:15, Psalm 119)
HIS COMFORT, HOPE AND PEACE (Isaiah 41:10, John 16:22, 2 Cor 1:3-4, Phil 4:7)
RELATIONSHIPS, FINANCES, PRACTICAL LIVING (John 13:34, Prov 13:11, 1 Tim 4:8)
HIS CHURCH AND HIS PEOPLE (Romans 12:4-5, Hebrews 10:24-25)
USING OUR GIFTS TO SERVE OTHERS (Mark 10:45, Romans 12:4-8, 1 Cor 12)
God is RARELY SPEAKING to our questions of where, how, or why.
There are things God is always speaking about, and then there are areas where God seems to hardly speak at all! We’ve probably all asked God some questions that don’t really seem to get an answer. “Why is this happening God?” “Where are you God in all this?” “What happened when I prayed for this person, and they didn’t get healed?”
WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME? Why are you silent? (Psalm 22:1)
HOW LONG LORD? How are you going to get me through this? (Psalm 13:1-2)
WHERE ARE YOU GOD? Where are your miracles? (Psalm 115:2-3)
Sometimes the heavens seem like brass when we are crying out to God! Our heavenly Father is truly a loving God, and yet He rarely answers questions of where, why or how. And when God speaks according to His divine order, He may not give the answers we want.
In Judges 6:12-16, Gideon asks similar questions, but God answers according to His divine order. God spoke to the WHO (who He is, and who Gideon was) and the WHAT (what He would do and what He was commissioning Gideon to do), but He didn’t answer the where, how or why. And this is often what happens in our own lives. Although this truth might seem confronting, in reality it can be very freeing. Understanding God’s ways (which are higher than ours) stops us striving and stressing to get answers, and brings us back to a focus on who God is and His incredible love for us.
QUESTIONS IN THE MIDST OF CHALLENGES
If we are constantly trying to get our questions answered in the midst of challenges, a few things can happen:
We misunderstand the nature of how God communicates to us
We incorrectly presume God is either not speaking to us or doesn’t care
We compare ourselves to others who God seems to be speaking to
We get frustrated, disillusioned, and accuse God of being unfair
There is a healthy pattern in the Psalms where people cry out to the Lord in their distress. They ask questions, but don’t get bitter when God is silent. The writers in Psalms turn back to divine order, choosing to focus on who God is. They start with questions but come back to praising Him because He is faithful and trustworthy. And this is how we continue to hear God speaking, even in the darkest valley. The more we know who God is, the more we understand His heart for us even during the tough times.
UNDERSTANDING OUR PERSONAL BIAS FOR HEARING GOD SPEAK
Even when we know God speaks in divine order, and even when we know the importance of intimacy with God to know Him better, we can develop a bias when we are seeking to hear God’s voice.
If we are LEADERS, our primary focus can become hearing what God is saying about the church or those we are leading.
If we are in BUSINESS, our primary focus can become hearing from God about future direction or solutions to current problems.
If we are serving through SPIRITUAL GIFTS, our primary focus can become hearing from God for others.
If we have a lot going on in our FAMILY or FINANCES or HEALTH, our primary focus can become hearing from God for our current needs.
Hearing God speak should be primarily about what HE WANTS TO SAY, not about WHAT WE WANT TO HEAR.
God is always speaking. So today, I encourage you to open your ears to the awesome, majestic God who created you! Look for who God is in His Word. Hear the declarations of incredible wisdom and divine power in every detail of nature. Reflect on His goodness and patience, and be thankful that you are a part of His family. And from that place, you will hear God speaking clearly to you.

God can speak to anyone at any time He chooses. Saved or sinner, king or servant, male or female, young or old – God is sovereign, and He will speak whenever and however He pleases! But there is a simple key to hearing God’s voice that we can all benefit from.
Every follower of Christ has the capacity to hear God clearly. God created us for intimate relationship, that we would know Him and recognise His voice. And although God is sovereign in all things, it shouldn’t surprise us that He is looking for those who genuinely seek after Him, so that He can share a deeper level of relationship with us.
DEVOTIONAL PLANS TO HELP YOU HEAR GOD’S VOICE
Psalm 25:14 (NIV) The LORD confides in those who fear him; he makes his covenant known to them.
To confide is to trust someone enough to tell them of a secret or private matter, or to entrust something to someone in order for them to look after it. The KJV says ‘the secret of the Lord is with them that fear him.’ This word ‘secret’ speaks of close deliberation and familiar conversation between God and mankind from a place of intimacy and relationship.
While we all have plenty of acquaintances, we probably have only a few people who we would trust with very personal things in our lives. In the same way, God is looking for trusted believers who He can share His intimate thoughts with.
A POWERFUL KEY TO HEARING THE LORD IS FEARING THE LORD
Psalm 25:14 tells us that the Lord confides in those who fear Him. So, what is the fear of the Lord? It is not just awe and wonder at His majesty. It is not just to morally revere God or even to tremble in His presence. Yes, it is all this, but it is much more. Scripture shows us that the fear of the Lord is linked to walking in obedience to His ways.
Psalm 25:12 (NIV) Who, then, are those who fear the Lord? He will instruct them in the ways they should choose.
Psalm 128:1 (NIV) Blessed are all who fear the Lord, who walk in obedience to him.
Psalm 111:10 (NIV) The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise.
The fear of the Lord is not just the EMOTION of reverence or the EXPRESSION of wonder; it is the ACTION of obedience.
We unlock a key to hearing God’s voice through our obedience. Proverbs 3:32 tells us that the Lord ‘takes the upright into His confidence’. Jesus said that we are His friends if we do what He commands (John 15:14-15). When it comes to your relationship with God, are you a casual acquaintance, or are you a trusted friend that He can confide in?
If you want to hear the Lord, then you have to fear the Lord.
If you want to receive His revelation, then you have to accept His ways.
God truly delights to speak to His children. If you have any doubt of this, just open your Bible! Ask the Lord to speak to you and ask Him what is on His heart. The Lord wants to confide in you, and a humble heart and obedient response opens the door to hearing God’s voice in greater measure.

As we draw closer to Christmas, I have a question for you to ponder. Where is the One who this season is supposed to be all about? In scripture, we read about some wise men from the East, who on seeing the sign of a particular star, travelled to Jerusalem and asked this very question, “Where is the One?”
Matthew 2:1-6 (NIV) After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”
When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him. When he had called together all the people’s chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Messiah was to be born. “In Bethlehem in Judea,” they replied, “for this is what the prophet has written:
“‘But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah,
are by no means least among the rulers of Judah;
for out of you will come a ruler
who will shepherd my people Israel.’”
We don’t really know a lot about these wise men from the little that is included in scripture. But we do know that they were the few who paid attention to one of the incredible prophetic signs of Jesus’ birth. These wise men correctly discerned the meaning of the star and knew that a great king had been born. This distinct star would have been visible to a large number of people, yet only a few men who were likely not of Jewish heritage understood the significance of it. The Magi started on a journey of discovery, and they were determined to find the King of the Jews and worship Him.
Contrast that with the chief priests and teachers of the law. When King Herod asked them where the Messiah was to be born, they immediately knew the answer. They didn’t have to look it up; this information was something that they had all studied and learnt by heart. But no one had noticed the star – or the significance of the One it was pointing towards.
If we follow this story along, not one of the religious leaders went with these wise men to ascertain whether this was indeed the Messiah. It seems absurd when you consider that Jerusalem and Bethlehem are only about 9km (5.5 miles) apart – literally a day’s walk. So why didn’t they go to see if this child that had been born was the ruler of Israel that had been prophesied?
The teachers of the law had the answers, but not a heart after God. They knew the words but missed the significance. The priests were simply too proud – and therefore too blind to see what was right before them. Maybe the religious leaders pompously discounted that this was indeed the prophecy of scripture being fulfilled, because of the cultural differences of the wise men from another country. The star of Jacob had arisen (Numbers 24:17-19) but the Jewish leaders completely missed the main event. And of course, then there was Herod, who was threatened by the thought of another king in his territory.
Matthew 2:7-12 (NIV) Then Herod called the Magi secretly and found out from them the exact time the star had appeared. He sent them to Bethlehem and said, “Go and search carefully for the child. As soon as you find him, report to me, so that I too may go and worship him.” After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was.
When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route.
The truth is that while this happened over two thousand years ago, the same effect is being repeated daily around the globe. Just like at the birth of Jesus, humanity generally has one of three responses to the One. Either people are believers in Jesus Christ who continually hunger and thirst after God and follow His leading, like the wise men; or they are hostile to the things of God, like Herod; or they are those who think they know the truth but are blind to it, like the Pharisees. This third category is so dangerous for those who consider themselves to ‘believe’ but only have religious externals, rather than a life truly sold out for Jesus Christ.
This is not just a Christmas story. It is a reminder that we can miss the prophetic things the Lord is saying to us unless we have our eyes open to the things of God. We need to have ears to hear what the Spirit is saying to the churches. We need the spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that we can know Him better.
We can read this story and tell ourselves that we are different. But this Christmas season, where is the One in your heart? Is Jesus just a brief thought in your week, or do you have an intimate, personal relationship with Him? Are you daily listening to the Holy Spirit and following His guidance and prompts? Or is your mind too busy with other stuff to pay attention?
The One has to become exactly that – number one in our lives. Jesus Christ must be central to everything because He alone is the way, the truth, and the life. As we head closer to Christmas, may we not get swept up in the festivities and miss the One who our very life and breath is dependent on. May our hearts be drawn closer to Him each and every day, and may we pay close attention to what God is doing to build His kingdom here on earth.

The word ‘father’ brings to mind different meanings and memories for each person. For some, a father evokes positive or happy thoughts. For others, the memories of a father may be difficult—for any number of reasons. But what is our perception of God the Father?
I believe that it is God’s desire that everyone receive a personal revelation of God, not only as our awesome God (and He is) but as our warm, loving, caring Father! A Father that wants us to talk with Him daily. A Father that desires us to live a life of intimacy and deep affection with Him; a life that will embolden us to become men and women of significance in our world. The scripture describes our loving Father in this way:
Romans 8:15 (NKJV) For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the spirit of adoption and by Him (the Spirit) we cry Abba Father!
This phrase ‘Abba Father’ is a term of endearment or affection. The Passion Translation of this scripture describes God as our ‘Beloved Father’.
In Galatians chapter 4, the apostle Paul writes that when we become believers, we move from slavery to sonship. The word ‘sons’ used throughout this chapter is not a reference to an exclusively male invitation, but a reference to the nature of the relationship that God offers: that of full, total adoption. This spiritual adoption is available for each person, both male and female.
Galatians 4:6-7 (NIV) Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.” So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir.
God is indicating the type of the relationship that He intends us to have with Him by talking about the tradition of the day. It was the custom of full adoption, in which an adopted person took on all the rights, privileges and authority of his new ‘father’ as his rightful heir. It was an awesome moment in a person’s life when whatever limitations previously part of their life were replaced by their whole new identity of power and authority granted to them by their father. With that full adoption moment came an amazing new life with freedom and potential never dreamed of previously.
When we have a personal revelation of true fatherhood, we have the security of knowing that:
We are totally loved
We are unconditionally accepted—and never have to strive for that acceptance again
We are a recipient of the Father’s provision
The authority of the Father now fully rests on us as His heir
Father is guiding the steps of our lives
Father is always and only motivated for our good
Father is the all-powerful Creator of Heaven and Earth—and He is greater than all of life’s opposition.
Friends, the marks of one living with a revelation of having God as our personal, intimate, affectionate Father is SECURITY! An impregnable, unshakeable security. We can go through life totally assured of His love and acceptance. 1 John 4:18 declares, “Perfect love casts out all fear!” The revelation of God as my affectionate, protecting Father conquers all fear. My intimacy with the Father is what empowers me.
When we are secure, we don’t compare ourselves with others or become intimidated by others. A revelation of Abba Father dares us to dream impossible dreams because our God is not restricted to our humanity. We become capable of bold initiatives because our driving force is to please Him and bring Him honour. It is never too late to experience a new and intimate relationship with Father.
Spiritual sonship is God’s intention for all of us! Father gives an invitation to enter in to such a relationship. He now offers you a life of far greater intimacy and potential than you have previously known or dreamed of. Ask Him today for a revelation of His heart and get to know Him as your personal, affectionate Abba Father.
People love to speculate on the End Times. I have heard many opinions from different people. Some have fought for the truth of their convictions, while others hazard a guess at what might possibly be. Many predicted dates for the End Times that have since come and gone… and we are still waiting.
Does God have anything definitive to say about the End Times? Is there a prophetic word of encouragement for us all today?
While having my own devotional time with God recently, I heard the Holy Spirit tell me to go to a certain scripture reference that I did not know by heart. In obedience, I turned to it and the following is where He led me. I believe it is God’s perspective for us about the End Times.
1 Thessalonians 5:1-2 NIV Now, brothers and sisters, about times and dates we do not need to write to you, for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.
God’s word to you for the End Times is “Live ready!” God is not going to make the date of Jesus return clear to any person. It is a mystery and it will remain a mystery. Our responsibility is not to work out when, but to live ready now.
When Jesus says “Come” are you ready to go? Here are three things the Holy Spirit spoke to me. Each point is relevant for every person that wants to be ready when Jesus triumphantly returns as King of kings and Lord of lords.
Live in the power of the Holy Spirit.
Acts 1:8 is often quoted when it comes to receiving the Holy Spirit, and it is a very powerful verse. What is not often stated is the preceding verses which give the context to which Jesus spoke. Let’s take a look together.
Acts 1:6-8 Then they gathered around him and asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?” He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
The disciples of Jesus wanted insight into the Father’s timeline of when certain things would happen. Jesus response is to be our focus today. In effect He said, “Don’t focus on trying to work out when my Father will do what He said He would do. Rather, be filled with the Holy Spirit, and through Him, be my witnesses all around the world.”
The instruction hasn’t changed. We are all called to live full of the Holy Spirit and to be witnesses of who Jesus is. The Father will do what He said He will do and He will do it in His time, but this is not to be our focus.
Live with your bags packed.
When we go away to another place where we are going to stay for a while, we pack a bag. In it we take what we need for where we are going. We don’t pack things that we need in our present location. We pack what we need for our intended destination.
This life is not our final destination. Yes, God provides for our needs here on the earth, but they are physical things that we cannot take with us. They are important in this moment, but they are not the most important.
The things of the Spirit and the things of the Kingdom are most important. Doing the will of our Father now is what we are to pack into our bags for our ultimate destination. Living for the glory of God now is an item worth packing for eternity. Passionately loving God and selflessly serving people will also travel well – we should most definitely pack these!
Here’s what the Bible says:
Matthew 6:19-21 Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Matthew 16:24-27 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it. What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father’s glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what they have done.
Is your focus on accumulating what you want for here and now, or is it on having what you need for all eternity?
Live with your affairs in order.
We are called to live right with God. We are also called to live right with people. One of the things that empower both of these principles is our commitment to keep short accounts. 1 Corinthians 13:5 tells us to ‘keep no record of wrongs’. When it comes to relationships, don’t put off until tomorrow what you should do today.
Ephesians 4:26-27 “In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold.
2 Corinthians 6:2 For he says, “In the time of my favour I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you.” I tell you, now is the time of God’s favour, now is the day of salvation.
We have today. In fact, the only guarantee we have is right now. Therefore, the focus of the One who holds the times in His hands and who knows the beginning and the end is for us to live ready now. Jesus is coming again – of that we have no doubt. When? Well, this is what Jesus said:
Matthew 24:36 But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.
Let God do what He said He will do, and let us do what He has called us to do. It’s time to live ready for the return of the King!

Father wants to put fresh, new spiritual destinations in your heart, along with a compelling purpose for pursuing them. God has a new destination for you – this is a time to be listening!
Isaiah 43:19 Behold, I will do a new thing, now it shall spring forth; shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.
The Hebrew word ‘wilderness’ means, ‘a vast open field where cattle are driven’, ‘uninhabited land’, or ‘large tracts of open land and pasture’.
The picture is of someone herding cattle like a drover and discovering uninhabited, vast plains of land that are virgin territory. However, the thought is not that of dryness. Quite the opposite! ‘A road in the wilderness’ speaks of a place where there is an abundance of food for cattle. Settlers can come and prosper in a new land. The ‘wilderness’ speaks of new territory. Expansive new territory – a new destination!
Father clearly spoke to me one morning a number of years ago and said: “I want the rest of your life as a blank sheet of paper.” I was amazed, as I sincerely considered that was the case already. However, over a period of a few weeks He showed me how subtle the nature of our desires can be. Indeed, our view of the future can be influenced by our knowledge of the past. I had to discover a place of complete surrender, with no qualifications attached. What an incredible sense of anticipation then flooded my heart!
So, if you feel as though you are facing a wilderness, take courage. The promise of God is that He will give you a ‘road’ that will cause that wilderness to become accessible and a place of great fruitfulness.
Can I encourage each one of you to take some time aside to present yourself afresh before the Lord to hear from Him. Bring your own blank sheet of paper to see what exciting new things He would write upon it for your future. Of one thing I am certain: He has a remarkable and fruitful new era for each one of us, if we dare to embrace it.

God is speaking all the time. He speaks in parables and stories, in statements and prophecies, in mysteries great and unsearchable. But Father also speaks with clarity and precision. And just three words from Jesus can be the very declaration that we need to hear right now.
In our faith journey, it is wonderful to be eager to know what God is speaking. But we can easily overlook what God says, even when it is right in front of us. We can look for some great word, but miss His voice because of the simplicity of the message.
WORDS WHICH ARE SIMPLE YET POWERFUL
Some of the most powerful moments in Jesus’ life were summed up in just three words. At the start of His ministry, Jesus finds Simon Peter and Andrew fishing. His command changed the direction of their lives: “Come, follow me.” While being tempted in the wilderness, Jesus rebukes the enemy with just three words, “It is written”. He uses the power of scripture to overcome temptation. When a man with leprosy comes to Jesus to ask if He will make him clean, Jesus says just three words, “I am willing” and then heals him. While the disciples are freaked out by the wind and the rain, Jesus calms the storm with just three words, “Quiet! Be still.”
Jesus, when He was on the cross, says just three words, “It is finished.” Peter, even after He had disowned Jesus just before He was crucified, was given his calling and purpose for life in just three words, “Feed my sheep.” Many of the simplest, yet most profound commands we hear from Jesus are summed up in three words: “Love one another”, “Remain in Me”, “Do not judge”, “Watch and pray,” “Do not worry”.
Focusing on just three words is not a principle to be followed or a rule to measure whether God is speaking or not. Jesus spoke for three chapters non-stop in Matthew when delivering the Sermon on the Mount. The entire Bible, all 66 books which are inspired by the Holy Spirit, is God speaking to us.
2 Timothy 3:16 (NIV) All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.
The length of how many words God says to us in a particular moment is not the point. The point is that God is always speaking – through His Word, through the Holy Spirit, through other believers, through creation, through prophetic pictures, and in many other ways.
HEARING THE WORDS OF GOD
When it comes to hearing God’s voice, He will speak to us with exactly what we need. Never underestimate the power of what God is saying because of the length of the words. And never discount who or what God will use to speak to you! The vessel used or the length is not important. Intimate relationship with God is what counts. Sometimes the simplicity of just three words is just what we need in order to remember it.
Whether it is three words, a paragraph, or a chapter – Father is always speaking. So, when the Holy Spirit whispers something to your heart, don’t overlook it just because it appears simple. When a phrase is highlighted to you from the Bible, meditate and press in to hear His voice. When you receive a word of encouragement or a scripture from a friend, listen to what God is saying. Bigger is not always better. Longer is not always loftier. God knows best – let’s allow His Words to change our lives.

Where do we get our interpretation of the Word of God from? Is it divine revelation, or is it our own opinions and ideas? It is important to have a correct definition of interpretation and to realign to what God authors.
“What is your interpretation of this verse?” to most people would mean “What do you think this verse means?”
But this is not what the word ‘interpretation’ means.
‘Interpretation’ from the Oxford Dictionary is defined as:
The action of explaining the meaning of something.
An explanation or way of explaining.
A stylistic representation of a creative work or dramatic role.
‘Interpretation’ from the Oxford Thesaurus is defined as:
‘the interpretation and application of the Bible’s teaching’.
Other words we see are: ‘meaning, analysis, decoding, translation, transliteration, and paraphrase’.
Here is the bottom line truth about ‘interpretation’:
‘Interpretation’ is about ‘our explanation’, it is not about ‘out opinion’.
Let me put it this way: If it’s not accurate to the original intention, it’s not an interpretation, it’s a distortion!
2 Timothy 2:15 says, Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.
We have substituted ‘Handle the Word of God correctly’ with ‘Interpret the Word of God as seems best to you’. Interpretation that comes from divine revelation is accurate because the Source is God. Interpretation that does not come from divine revelation is dangerous and erroneous because the source is us. We cannot handle the Word of God correctly outside of divine revelation from our Father in heaven. Our application is aligned to our interpretation, and this is why it must be founded in divine revelation.
We do what we believe, therefore, if our belief is incorrect, our doing will be incorrect. Trying to change what we do without changing what we believe will result in ongoing frustration and disappointment. True freedom is connected to right believing, and right believing is connected to divine revelation, not natural interpretation.
John 8:31-32 states, To the Jews who had believed Him, Jesus said, “If you hold to My teaching, you are really My disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
I fear too many Christians are coming up with their version of truth, and it can never lead to lasting freedom. Only God’s version of the truth can result in true freedom.
We must seek the truth.
We must pursue the truth.
We must deeply desire the truth.
We must position ourselves to receive the truth.
God may say different things, to different people, from the same scripture, but He will never contradict Himself from the same scripture.
It’s time to know THE TRUTH and to get our interpretation from divine revelation.
